(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the beating of a dozen journalists by Israeli
police and the arrest of two journalists while they were covering a
demonstration by Palestinians at a settlement site in Ras Al-Amud in east
Jerusalem.
According to RSF’s information, on 27 May 1999, Chourouk Al-Assad, a
Palestinian journalist working for the Egyptian Nile TV, and Daharieh
El-Khatib, a Palestinian cameraman for the Saoudi television station MBC,
were beaten by the police and briefly detained. Mossy Amron, an Israeli
cameraman working for the French television station France 2, was also hit
and sustained a knee injury. He had to be taken to hospital. Other
journalists and photographers were caught in the clashes.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to the home secretary:
which
constitute a blatant infringement of the right to freely inform
of the rule of law are taken to court and convicted accordingly
