(RSF/IFEX) – RSF is protesting the arrest of a journalist from an
independent weekly in Conakry.
According to RSF’s information, Jean-Baptiste Kouroma, the associate
editor-in-chief of the private weekly “L’Indépendant Plus”, was arrested on
the night of 26 April 1999 by police officers. He was imprisoned at a
Conakry police station. Authorities allegedly accuse him of having published
two articles accusing high-level state officials of taking bribes.
Recommended Action
Send appeals to the Security Minister:
journalist and to guarantee the security and freedom of all Guinean
journalists
on
Civil and Political Rights, Article 19 of which stipulates that “Everyone
has the right to their own opinion, to express themselves, [and] to share
and discuss information and ideas”
