Pu Lay were released in February 1999 “on humanitarian grounds.”

Short-story writer, editor and doctor Ma Thida was arrested on 7 August
1993
and sentenced to twenty years in prison for distributing banned
literature
to foreign opposition groups. She was released on 12 February “on
humanitarian grounds.”
Writer Nyi Pu Lay was arrested on 25 December 1990 and sentenced to ten
years’ imprisonment for “contact with illegal organisations.” He was
reportedly released in February 1999 “on humanitarian grounds,” ten
months
before the end of his sentence.
