(Media Watch/IFEX) – According to a “Daily Star” report, a political
debate focusing on the upcoming municipal election, originally scheduled
to have been televised on 11 February 1999, was abruptly cancelled due
to a last minute intervention by the Ministry of Information.
The report states that the current affairs programme AEI SOMOY was
scheduled to go on air on ATN Bangla channel at 9 p.m on 11 February.
Numerous announcements promoting the new programme had been broadcast on
ATN over the last few days, but after the Ministry of Information asked
to have it scrutinized, the TV channel suddenly failed to transmit the
programme as scheduled, an unusual move for any foreign TV channel.
AEI SOMOY is produced by Promotions, a print and visual communications
company, and is directed by Muhammed Jahangir.
