Kargbo, a free-lance reporter with the independent newspaper “Pathfinder,”
was arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) police in Freetown
and transported to the CID headquarters. The arrest came shortly after
Kargbo was interviewed on the British Broadcasting Service (BBC) “Focus on
Africa” program, and stated that he had witnessed the 20 December rebel
attack on Waterloo (32 kilometers east of Freetown), and that the rebels
appeared militarily superior to the West African Peacekeeping Forces
(ECOMOG).
