(RSF/IFEX) – El 6 de octubre de 1998, RSF protesto contra la detencion del
periodista independiente Manuel Antonio González.

Según las informaciones de que dispone RSF, el 1 de octubre por la tarde,
Manuel Antonio González, corresponsal de la agencia de prensa independiente
Cuba Press en Holguín (al este de la Isla), fue detenido por agentes de la
Seguridad del Estado por “desacato a Fidel Castro”. El periodista se
encuentra encarcelado desde esa fecha en el Departamento de la Policía
Nacional Revolucionaria (PNR) de San Germán, municipio de Holguín.
Al día siguiente de esta detencion, otros agentes de la policía política
agredieron a los dos sobrinos del periodista, para luego también detenerlos
; en un “acto de reprobacion” organizado delante del domicilio de Manuel
Antonio González, varias decenas de personas trataron de
“contrarrevolucionarios” y “apátridas” a los miembros de su familia.
Recommended Action
Remitir apelaciones a las autoridades:
ejercido su derecho a la libertad de expresion, garantizado por el artículo
19 de la Declaracion Universal de los Derechos Humanos

detenidos arbitrariamente en Cuba : Lorenzo Paez Nuñez, condenado a
dieciochos meses de cárcel por “desactao y difamacion a la Policía
Nacional” y Bernardo Arévalo Padron, condenado a seis años de cárcel por
“desacato al Presidente Fidel Catro y al Vicepresidente Carlos Lage” (ver
alertas de IFEX de los 21 y 1 de septiembre de 1998 y otras)
