(NDIMA/IFEX) – Siad Wabera, a journalist for the “Daily Nation” who is
based in Marsabit, in North Eastern Province, has been receiving telephone
calls from anonymous people threatening him with death.
“We know who you are, we shall deal with you shortly. You must know what you
should write and what you should not”, one caller told him.
The threatening telephone calls follow last week’s government statement on
the status of the secessionist Oromo Liberation Front rebels holed up along
the Kenya-Ethiopia border. The report was compiled by Wabera after making
an extensive fact-finding tour of the Hurri Hills and Forolle areas.
Wabera’s reports said that the government was putting its forces on high
alert.
