correspondent based in Zinder was arrested by police. No reason was given
for his detention. Suleiman is currently being interrogated by police who
have refused any requests for information about the arrest. CPJ has learned
that Souleiman was arrested in connection with his coverage of
opposition/pro-democracy rally on Saturday 2 May 1998 at Damagaram,Niger. No
official charges have been made but it seems that he is being questioned for
“spreading false information.”
