(RSF/IFEX) – According to RSF, on 8 March 1998, journalists Faruk Aktas and
Bulent Acar of the daily Kurdish newspaper “Ulkede Gundem” were detained
along with at least fifty other people at an International Women’s Day
demonstration in Taksim Square, Istanbul. Aktas and Acar were covering the
event. The two journalists have been detained at the Security Services
premises in Istanbul where a prosecutor advised police that the journalists
are to be held for four days. They are to appear in a State Security court
on 11 March 1998.
