(CPJ/IFEX) – On 27 February 1997, unidentified armed men broke into the Ogun
State home of Tunde Oladepo, senior editor of the “Guardian” newspaper, and
shot him in front of his wife and children. The gunmen remained in Oladepo’s
home for two hours, finally leaving the premises with a television set and
some clothing. CPJ sources stated that the circumstances surrounding
Oladepo’s death are highly suspicious noting that few items were removed
from the house and the fact that armed robbers usually flee the scene of a
crime immediately after the crime is committed.
