(NDIMA/IFEX) – Joshua Kulei, a Nairobi businessman and aide to
President Daniel arap Moi who has sued a Kenyan rural newspaper
“The Times” for libel (See IFEX Alerts) published a notice on 26
October in the Sunday Nation warning two Nairobi newspapers that
he might take legal action against them for causing to be
published or publishing articles which he claimed were false.

The two newspapers, the “East African”, published by the Nation
group of newspapers, and “Expression Today”, published by Media
Institute, carried stories last week in connection with disputes
between a Nairobi businessman, Yazim Gulam Nanji, and Form-Net
Africa Limited, an internet service provider. The two stories
said Kulei was interested in buying or owning Form-Net
Africa Limited which has been reported to be having some
operational problems.
In the paid advertisement, Kulei said in part, “I request the
parties to the said dispute to desist from involving my name or
person in their corporate or private matters as I have no wish to
get involved. I also take this opportunity to give NOTICE to any
person who may have been involved in the publication of the said
articles or causing them to be published that I hereby reserve
all my legal rights in respect of the consequences of the said
publications.”
