**Updates IFEX CH alert 6 December 1994**
The Canadian Committee to Protect Journalists has received a
reply from the office of the Honourable Sergio Marchi, Minister
of Citizenship and Immigration, regarding the case of Mary
Chelegat Kipruto, a Kenyan journalist and refugee claimant who
faces deportation from Canada. Although the letter does not
include specific details, it reads, in part:
“I regret that my response cannot be more substantive; however, I
wish to assure you that Ms. Kipruto’s case will be given every
consideration under the law. The Minister appreciates Ms.
Kipruto’s journalistic integrity and your support for her
continued presence in Canada.”
CCPJ believes that the decision in Ms. Kipruto’s case is unlikely
to be reversed.
No further actions required at this time.
