Poptsov, will be fired for his organisation’s critical reporting
on the conflict in Chechnya, according to unconfirmed reports
obtained by IPI. Poptsov could be dismissed because of Russian
TV’s supposed lack of objectivity in its coverage of the Chechen
crisis. State television employees support Poptsov and have
threatened to strike if he is fired.
Recommended Action
Please write to the authorities in Russia:
dismissal of Oleg Popstov, given that this is a clear violation
of freedom of the press and an attempt to control the free flow
of information from the conflict zone
