(CEHURDES/IFEX) – On 25 June 2002, three unknown assailants manhandled Taranath Dahal, Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) president, at his home in Bhaktapur.
According to Dahal, the assault was premeditated but he is unaware of the reasons behind it. Moreover, Dahal noted that on the evening of 25 June three unidentified drunk individuals came asking about his wife’s whereabouts. “When I responded, one of them tried to pull my shirt and I pushed him back,” he said. One of the other two individuals intervened and they then fled quickly. Dahal added that he immediately called the Bhaktapur chief district officer and the police superintendent, who promptly arrived at his house. The authorities have not arrested anyone so far.
CEHURDES condemned the attack on FNJ President Dahal and demanded that the authorities take prompt action to discover the assailants’ identity.
