In articles published especially in the now-defunct weekly “El
Informador Publico”, and in the 1994 book “The Stolen Nation”
(“La Nacion Robada”), Pinetta reported on the results of
investigations that he had made into alleged corruption involving
a contract between IBM and the Banco Nacion. The contract allowed
IBM to computerise all 525 branches of the bank. Judicial
authorities investigated the commission paid to obtain the
contract which was, according to Pinetta, US$ 37 million. Legal
proceedings were later initiated against about 30 individuals
from IBM and the Banco Nacion.
According to his family, Pinetta had been assaulted on two
occasions in just over one month previous to this latest attack.
