**Updates IFEX alert dated 23 April 1996**
Liberian journalist Nyenati Allison, correspondent for the
Associated Press (AP) news agency and the British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC), has fled with his two children from Liberia
after being threatened by soldiers for the third time. On 3 May
1996, a commander of the National Patriotic Forces of Liberia
(NPFL) ordered Allison to go with him to NPFL headquarters to
answer questions about a story that he had filed to AP and BBC
about how no armed faction had the upper hand in the fighting.
When the commander went to his hotel, Allison took that
opportunity to escape. He picked up his two children and boarded
a fishing boat, which remained at sea for five days before
docking at Abidjan. He immediately left by bus to Ghana after
being informed that several NPFL agents were in Abidjan. He is
now in Accra keeping a low profile.
