(JED/IFEX) – Jean-Louis Kalumba, publisher of “Mwamgaza”, a newspaper published in Lubumbashi (capital of the Congolese province of Katanga, in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s south-east), was summoned to appear before a Lubumbashi/Kamalondo court on 23 September 2002. He is accused of making “harmful accusations” against Amsini Kiswaka, the bishop of Sakania-Kipushi diocese.
The 29 August issue of “Mwangaza” (no. 40) featured an article entitled “His Lordship Amsini Kiswaka implicated in the misappropriation of US$432,000 intended for community development projects”. The bishop is seeking US$100,000 in damages and interest.
