(PPF/IFEX) – On 3 October 2003, three unidentified individuals killed a journalist in the town of Shikarpur. According to reports, Ameer Bux Barohi, a correspondent for the Sindhi-language newspaper “Kawish”, was returning from police headquarters in a jeep when he was fired upon by his assailants. The attackers fled after shooting the journalist.
Ameer Bux Barohi was shot five times, twice in the shoulders, and rushed to the Shikarpur Civil Hospital by police, where he died from his injuries.
Quoting eye witnesses, “Kawish” daily said the journalist quarrelled with the armed men, who later shot him and fled.
Journalists’ organisations throughout the province of Sindh condemned the incident and urged police to investigate the murder and arrest the journalist’s attackers.
