Speaking to MISA-Tanzania early in the morning of 25 June, Ali Saleh, the “Dira” sports and features editor who is also BBC’s Kiswahili correspondent in Zanzibar, said, “Since yesterday morning at 8:00 a.m., Ali Nabwa is no longer a Tanzanian citizen. Maybe he will reapply for citizenship.”
When questioned by MISA-Tanzania on 25 June, Nabwa confirmed that his passport was seized on 24 June and that he was heading to the Immigration Department to lodge a complaint. The editor asked MISA-Tanzania to call him again in the afternoon of 25 June for an update.
