(PPF/IFEX) – On 8 January 2004, Karachi Additional District and Session Judge Abdul Malik gave a sentence of life imprisonment to Aziz Qureshi, the accused in the bombing of the Karachi advertising office of the national Urdu-language daily “Nawa-i-Waqt”.
Four persons, including a woman who was reportedly carrying the bomb, were killed in the blast at the Karachi advertising office of “Nawa-i-Waqt” on 6 November 2000.
The victims included circulation manager Ziaul Haq, computer operator Sajid Mehmood and advertising manager Najamul Hasan Zaidi. Several persons, including passers-by, were also wounded in the attack.
Qureshi was arrested on 2 March 2002. He confessed his involvement in the bomb blast before a magistrate. Police said the deceased woman, named Parveen, was not aware that the bomb was in her purse.
