(MRA/IFEX) – On 27 November 2004, Stephan Faris, a reporter with the United States-based news weekly “Time” magazine, was prevented by State Security Service (SSS) agents from entering Nigeria upon his arrival at Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos. He was later expelled from the country, according to “Time” magazine’s news director, Howard Chua-Eoan.
In a 29 November statement, Chua-Eoan said that Faris arrived at the Lagos airport from Nairobi, Kenya, but was stopped at immigration control by SSS officials and subsequently expelled.
According to “Time” magazine’s news director, Faris had a valid Nigerian visa and had previously informed the Ministry of Information in Abuja of his arrival.
“Time” magazine is demanding an explanation from Nigerian authorities.
