JOURNALIST RECEIVES DEATH THREAT / NEWSPAPER OFFICE ATTACKED
1. Terrorists have issued death threats against Moktar Hossain, correspondent in Khulna for the daily Bhorer Dak, published in Dhaka. According to a general diary filed with the Khulna thana [police station] on 9 March 2002, the daily Star reported that unidentified persons have been threatening the journalist and his family over the phone since the morning of 9 March.
2. United News of Bangladesh (UNB) reported that youths ransacked the office of the Kushtia-based daily Ajker Alo on 9 March 2002. Witnesses said the youths led by an individual known as Dulal stormed into the newspaper office at around 6:30 a.m. and damaged the furniture, window panes, door and TV sets. Police visited the office but no case was filed as a result.
