(MFWA/IFEX) – On 1 November 2005, a group of activists from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ghana’s main opposition party, assaulted Patricia Setorwu and Garneo Caches, reporters for the independent daily newspaper “Daily Guide”.
A mobile phone belonging to one of the reporters was also smashed to pieces.
The NDC was holding an emergency meeting on that day at party headquarters in Accra to decide the fate of their national women’s organizer, Frances Asiam, who had made allegations against party founder and former Ghana President Jerry John Rawlings.
The reporters had gone to the headquarters to cover the meeting when they were attacked by the NDC activists. They were rescued by other members of the party.
