IFJ condemns attack on media crew in Kyrgyzstan
The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) condemns the outrageous attack on the camera crew of television company Mezon during a meeting in Jalalabat city (Kyrgyzstan) on May 27.
According to IFJ affiliate, the Public Association of Journalists in Kyrgyzstan, Kamil Satkanbaev, editor of the news department, and journalist Illhom Abdukaharov were beaten, and Satkanbaev’s camera was broken, after they refused to give a news tape to meeting participants.
The journalists were then forced to give all of their materials to meeting participants.
“This is a cowardly attack and a direct violation of journalists’ rights. The IFJ demands a full investigation into this attack,” IFJ President Christopher Warren said.
The IFJ represents more than 500,000 journalists in over 110 countries.
