(CEMESP/IFEX) – The Executive Mansion, the seat of Liberia’s presidency, has announced that it is considering the option of selecting specific media institutions to provide media coverage.
Presidential Press Secretary Cyrus Badio made the disclosure on 21 August 2006 at a news briefing in Monrovia.
He said he is also contemplating limiting press briefings from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf to the issuance of press statements to avoid what he called “distortions.”
Mr. Badio claimed that the level of distortions was diverting the public’s attention from the primary messages coming from the president’s office.
He then threatened to take remedial action if media outlets continue, in his estimation, misinterpreting the office of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The presidential spokesman however fell short of naming the media institutions involved in his allegations of misquotations.
Mr. Badio some time ago threatened to revoke the accreditation of representatives of some media institutions assigned to the office of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
