TOGO: CPJ mourns death of pioneering female journalist
New York, June 4, 2007 – The Committee to Protect Journalists issued the following statement today in response to the death in a helicopter crash on Sunday of journalist Olive Messan Amouzou, the first woman to head a radio station in Togo. Amouzou, former director general of private Radio Sport FM in the capital Lomé and a member of the media commission of the Togolese soccer association, was among 20 others killed in Sierra Leone while traveling with an official delegation of the association.
“We mourn the tragic loss of Olive Messan Amouzou, a pioneer among female journalists in Togo,” CPJ Executive Director Joel Simon said. “We extend our deepest condolences to her family and colleagues.”
