(RSF/IFEX) – Reporters Without Borders condemns a grenade attack on Bangkok-based opposition satellite TV station ASTV early on the morning of 24 November 2008. The station is owned by Sondhi Limthongkul, one of the leaders of the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), and is often used as a coordination centre by PAD activists seeking the government’s removal.
Two grenades were fired at the ASTV building but exploded without reaching their target and without causing injury or significant damage. The attack has nonetheless alarmed ASTV staff as it comes amid growing political tension between the government and the PAD. The group accuses Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat of being a front man for his brother-in-law, exiled former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra.
