Unknown gunmen opened fire on the head of Tanwir TV in northern Baghlan province, Afghanistan, injuring him and killing his security guard.

Unknown gunmen opened fire on the representative of the Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) and head of Tanwir TV in northern Baghlan province on Thursday 12 October 2017, injuring him and killing his security guard.
The incident took place in Pul-e-Khumri, the provincial capital of Baghlan province, when unidentified gunmen opened fire on the vehicle of Shir Mohammad Jahesh, around 6:40pm local time. He was on his way home from the office when he was attacked.
A local official told the AFJC that Amanullah Haghyar, the security guard, died of injuries at the scene of the attack and Mr. Jahesh suffered two gunshot wounds to the stomach and the face.
“Mr. Jahesh received two gunshot wounds but the doctors told me that he is out of danger,” the official added
No militant group has so far accepted responsibility for the attack.
Meanwhile, AFJC executive director Ahmad Quraishi condemned the attack and expressed sorrow over the incident.
“The government must immediately launch an investigation into the assault to identify the suspects and take swift action against those responsible,” Mr.Quraishi added.
The attack comes five months after a horrific suicide bombing in Kabul that killed dozens, including four local media workers. According to figures from the AFJC, 73 journalists and media workers have been killed in Afghanistan since 1994 and the killers – with the exception of four cases – continue to enjoy impunity.
