(WiPC/IFEX) – As reported in the last Rapid Action Network (RAN), Hamid Reza
Jalaipour was released on 13 October 1998. PEN has now learned that
Mashallah Shamsolva’ezin, Mohammad Javadi Hessar and Ibrahim Nabavi were
also released on either 21 or 22 October.

The four men, all employees of the daily “Tous”, were taken into custody
between 16 and 20 September. There have been reports that Shamsolva’ezin and
Nabavi are in ill-health because of the harsh conditions of their detention.
PEN will continue to monitor their cases and alert the RAN network should
there be any further developments.
No further action is required at this time.
