A statement from the Radio City radio station said that an Albanian group hacked into the station's website and posted a message saying "Kosovo is Albanian".
(ANEM/IFEX) – Belgrade, July 28, 2011 – The Association of Independent Electronic Media (ANEM) strongly protests against attacks on the Radio City website by Albanian hackers. Radio City is based in the city of Nis.
A Radio City statement said that on July 27, 2011, Albanian hackers known by the name of the UAH CREW hacked into the Radio City website and left the message “Kosovo is Shqiperi” (Kosovo is Albanian) on the site. The statement also said the reason for the attack probably lies in the fact that the radio station broadcasts joint programs from a network of local radio stations in Kosovo and central Serbia, named “Most Izvan Granicao” (“Bridge beyond Borders”). The Radio City station has joined this network. The project within which the programs are aired aims to examine the possibility of Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo living together and whether independence or division could provide a solution to the Kosovo problem.
ANEM points out that actions such as this create an atmosphere in which the media are prevented from informing the public or from publicly discussing issues that are relevant to the coexistence of Albanians and Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. ANEM emphasizes that media outlets that deal with these issues have to be protected from actions that make public debates and informing the public impossible, especially keeping in mind that the project includes local stations from both Kosovo and central Serbia. ANEM warns that extremist attitudes and the prevention or lack of dialogue and public discussion about all issues fails to contribute to a better future for all people living in Serbia, Kosovo and Metohija.
ANEM expresses complete solidarity with its member in Nis, Radio City, and calls on the authorities in the Republic of Serbia and Kosovo to implement measures to prevent further obstruction of the project.
