(JED/IFEX) – On 2 October 2001, Jean Ndombasi Kimboko, programming director and presenter of the newscast “Moanda Soir” on the RCM (Radio communautaire de Moanda) radio station, which broadcasts out of Moanda (a city on the Atlantic coast, in Lower-Congo province), was summoned by the local head of the National Information Agency (Agence nationale de renseignement, ANR/Moanda).
The journalist did not have to give an official statement, but he was questioned informally about a news item which RCM broadcast on 28 September, according to which the Congolese head of state would reportedly soon be going on an official visit to Lower Congo province. The news item irritated the local ANR/Moanda official, who ordered that henceforth, all RCM news bulletins would have to be read by the ANR before being aired. The RCM station did not follow up on the ANR official’s order.
