(JED/IFEX) – Kazadi Kwambi Kasumpata, freelance correspondent for the weekly newspaper “Lubilanji Expansion”, in Kinshasa, was transferred to the state penitentiary, Centre pénitentiaire et de rééducation de Kinshasa (CPRK) on 22 April 2006 after spending 48 hours in detention in the Gombe High Court prison.
Arrested in the afternoon of 20 April, Kazadi was charged with defaming the Protestant University of Congo (UPC). In the 7 to 14 March 2006 issue (edition 188), the newspaper published an article by Kwambi entitled, “Scandal at Protestant University of Congo”.
