The petition says:
A sudden spate of arrests of journalists in Tehran on 27 January, known as “Black Sunday,” has been followed by interrogations and arrests of other journalists in several provincial cities. At least 19 have been arrested. Others have been summoned and questioned. They are being accused of collaborating with groups hostile to the Islamic Revolution and of being in the pay of Foreign intelligence agencies.
The reign of terror imposed in the wake of the disputed presidential election of June 2009 is continuing and intensifying. According to the information gathered by Reporters Without Borders, more than 350 journalists and netizens have been arrested and sentenced by revolutionary courts to jail term ranging from six months to 20 years since June 2009.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is now one of the world’s biggest prisons for news providers, with a total of 58 journalists and netizens currently detained.
We cannot allow this situation to continue!
Reporters Without Borders calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all the journalists and netizens currently in prison in Iran. Help them to realize this demand by signing the petition.
