Bomb attack on journalist’s home
On the night of 4 December 2001, a group of assailants hurled three crude bombs at the residence of Shafik Rehman, eminent journalist and editor of the Jai Jai Din, in the Eskaton Garden region.
Rehman’s family members said the assailants arrived at the house, located at 15 Eskaton Road, aboard three auto-rickshaws and a private car, around 7:00 p.m., while some students from the Art Institute were writing a number of renowned personalities’ quotations on the front wall of the house.
The assailants threw three homemade bombs at the editor’s residence. One bomb exploded against the wall of the house and two others hit the roof causing a loud ruckus. Although Rehman and his family members were in the house at the time, no one was hurt in the attack.
The attackers fled the scene within minutes of the bombings. Two police constables were patrolling the area during the incident but they failed to catch any of the assailants.
A Ramna Police team visited the scene of the crime but so far no one has been arrested in connection with the attack.
