(MISA/IFEX) – The Mozambican public prosecutor’s office has charged businessman Nyimpine Chissano, eldest son of former President Joaquim Chissano, in the November 2000 murder of Mozambique’s top investigative journalist, Carlos Cardoso.
A legal source contacted by the Mozambique News Agency (AIM) confirmed that the charge sheet was delivered to the Maputo City Court about two weeks ago. In it, Chissano Jr is accused of “joint moral authorship” of the murder. The source added that the indictment also accuses Chissano of “various economic crimes”, but could not confirm if a warrant for his arrest had been issued.
