(PPF/IFEX) – On 24 April 2003, the All Balochistan Cable TV Operators Association announced the resumption of broadcasts after negotiations with Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) authorities and the senior superintendent of police (SSP), the city of Quetta’s chief of police.
Association President Sohail Aziz and PEMRA Regional Manager Zahid Hussain made the announcement during a 24 April joint press conference in Quetta.
Cable operators had suspended their transmissions on the evening of 22 April following an arson attack on the offices of Millennium Cable TV Network Company by unidentified persons. The cable operator’s night watchman was assaulted and sustained burn injuries during the attack.
Aziz informed reporters that the decision to resume broadcasts was taken after PEMRA authorities and SSP Quetta gave assurances that they would take strict action against the culprits involved in the incident. They also said they would make a special recommendation for payment of compensation to the affected cable television operators and the injured watchman.
