(RSF/IFEX) – Cartoonist Chit Swe, who is also an opposition National League for Democracy activist, was released after completing a one-month prison sentence on 23 August 2005.
He was arrested during a meeting at his home on 12 July and given the prison sentence (along with a six-month suspended sentence) by a Rangoon court on 3 August. He was convicted of “defying the authorities’ orders” under a state of emergency law often used against government opponents.
