(ARTICLE 19/IFEX) – ARTICLE 19 has been informed that, on 28 July 1999 at
8:30 a.m. (local time), the General Attorney of Hungary ordered the
termination of the case against Hungarian journalist Laszlo Juszt on the
grounds that no crime had been committed. Juszt was detained by the police
in early June and his magazine “Kriminalis” was effectively closed down
based on unsubstantiated claims that he had disclosed state secrets.

ARTICLE 19 has been told that the police have ceased all investigations and
that Juszt will have his passport, as well as all other confiscated
property, returned to him on 29 July.
