Xu Wenli is a writer, editor and veteran activist now serving the second year of a thirteen-year sentence for “secretly planning” to set up the unofficial Chinese Democratic Party of which he is chairman. According to WiPC’s information, Xu Wenli was officially diagnosed with Hepatitis B in September 1999, having exhibited symptoms of the disease for several months. His condition is now believed to be severe and his wife, He Xintong, reports that despite her appeals for improved treatment Xu Wenli is still receiving insufficient medical care and a poor diet.
