(ARTICLE 19/IFEX) – The following is a correction by ARTICLE 19 and the IFEX Clearing House:
ARTICLE 19 and the IFEX Clearing House would like to apologize for a misunderstanding on a recent alert, which the IFEX Clearing House titled: ARTICLE 19 expresses concern over lack of Criminal Code reform. ARTICLE 19 would like to clarify that their letter to the Swedish Prime Minister was written to him in his capacity as EU President.
The first paragraph of the alert should read:
(ARTICLE 19/IFEX) – In a 31 May 2001 letter to EU President Göran Persson, ARTICLE 19, the Global Campaign for Free Expression, noted that it is currently working in conjunction with the Centre for Independent Journalism and the Romania Helsinki Committee as part of its Democracy in Practice Project. This project is taking place in five southeastern European countries with the aim of improving freedom of information legislation and reducing the illegitimate use of defamation laws. It also includes campaigning against criminal defamation laws where they still exist.
