**Updates IFEX alerts dated 12 July, 21 and 19 June 1996**
On 16 July 1996, Lebanese journalist Ali Diya appeared in an
Israeli court and was ordered to remain in detention until 22
July. Diya’s lawyer, Tamar Ullman, was not informed of her
client’s court appearance and was thus unable to assist him.
According to Ullman, “the police and the information ministry
deliberately wanted to avoid any defence of the case.”
