(IRFS/IFEX) – The “Gundalik Baki” newspaper is facing a lawsuit filed by soldier Mursalov Fardi, who serves in the Defense Ministry Apartment Exploitation Service Unit. The soldier claims that a newspaper article entitled “Mehman Hajaliyev’s Illegal Actions” contained libelous information about him. Fardi and his parents were reportedly concerned after reading the article and decided to file a lawsuit.
The newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Adil Huseynli, told IRFS about the lawsuit, adding that there is nothing libelous or defamatory in the article. “It is simply stated in the article that the head of the Defense Ministry Apartment Exploitation Service Unit, Mehman Hajaliyev, appointed Farid Mursalov to this unit with the help of a bribe,” said Huseynli.
The editor-in-chief believes this is a case of the ministry exerting pressure on the newspaper. “Soldier Farid Mursalov is being used in this game. However we are not sure whether Minister Safar Abiyev or Mehman Hajaliyev is behind this,” Huseynli emphasized.
The case will be considered by the Yasamal District Court, presided by Judge Khagani Tagiyev, on 30 April 2008.
