“Ostriv” editor-in-chief victim of arson
Serhiy Harmash, the editor-in-chief of the highly critical online edition of the Donetsk-based independent newspaper “Ostriv”, reports that his car was intentionally set ablaze on 21 September 2007. He claims the arson attack comes in reprisal for his professional activity. The online edition of “Ostriv” is well-known throughout Ukraine.
On the night of 22 September his Daewoo Lanos was set ablaze and burnt completely in Donetsk. Several other cars were also set aflame, but Harmash believes this was done to divert the police from considering it a targeted attack. The police have said they consider the arson attack to be a simple act of hooliganism.
