(EFJA/IFEX) – On 12 and 13 December 2000, acting editor-in-chief of “Ethio-Time” newspaper Shimellis Asfaw and President of EFJA Kifle Mulat were ordered by telephone to report to the Central Investigation Department (CID).
This week, Mulat is involved in several important projects, including hosting Jon Lunn, researcher with ARTICLE 19’s Africa programme, and preparing for EFJA’s Third Congress, which is planned for Sunday 24 December.
Mulat sent a message about the summons to the IFEX Clearing House before reporting to the CID on 14 December at 10:00 am (local time).
Recommended Action
Send appeals to authorities:
- stating that the international freedom of expression community is closely monitoring the tactical harassment and intimidation measures being used against Mulat and Asfaw
- condemning these actions
