Family appeals for journalist’s release
Peshawar: The family of Saeed Zaman Afridi, a correspondent of The News, has appealed to the military authorities to release him on humanitarian grounds. According to press reports, Mr. Afridi was arrested last week in Khyber Agency, after his insistence on covering a militia operation in the area led to an argument with an officer of the paramilitary Rangers.
In a press release, Afridi’s family said the journalist has a long history of health complications like high cholesterol and a gastric ulcer, and is suffering from paraplegia with anxiety neurosis.
