Police are looking into the possible motive behind the killing of a radio broadcaster in Zamboanga Sibugay province, Philippines on 22 April 2013.
Police are still looking into the possible motive behind the killing of a radio broadcaster in Zamboanga Sibugay province last 22 April 2013. Zamboanga Sibugay is a province approximately 781 kilometers south of Manila.
A gunman riding tandem on a motorcycle shot dead Mario Baylosis Vendiola of dxML 101.7 FM-Radyo Natin at around 11:30 AM (Manila time) in Salipyasin village, Kabasalan town, Zamboanga Sibugay. Vendiola was said to be on his way home from his regular music program.
Vendiola sustained shots in the head and chest. No one has been arrested since the incident.
The Manila newspaper Business World quoted Zamboanga Peninsula regional police spokesman Ariel D. Huesca as saying that, “The killing is more likely due to personal grudges, not work-related.” But the police have yet to conclude their investigation.
If found to be work-related, Vendiola will be the 13th journalist/media practitioner killed in the line of duty under the Benigno Aquino III administration which came to power in 2010 and the 130th murdered journalist since 1986.
