(FNJ/IFEX) – FNJ Dhaulagiri Branch Secretary Hari Narayan Gautam was arrested on the morning of 9 April 2006 in Baglung, the largest centre in the Dhaulagiri zone. He was arrested while reporting the news on the democratic movement organized by the Seven Party Alliance.
Gautam had suffered a serious injury to his head on 8 April while reporting on the movement staged by the Seven Party alliance.
The FNJ’s Dhaulagiri Branch has issued a press statement condemning Gautam’s arrest. It has also asked the government for Gautam’s immediate release.
Karna Bahadur Karki, former vice president, Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) and D. R. Ghimire, president of FNJ’s Rupendehi chapter were arrested today in the morning in Butwal, a western city and capital of Rupendehi District .They were arrested while reporting the news on the democratic movement organized by Seven Party Alliance.
Similarly, Sita Ram Jaisi, executive member of the FNJ Dailekh branch was also arrested on 9 April, in the morning in Dailekh, a far western district. Jaisi was arrested while reporting on the protest staged by the Seven Parties Alliance.
The FNJ has issued a press statement condemning the continuous arrests and the rough treatment of journalists. It has also asked the government for the immediate release of the detained journalists.
