While press freedom violations were down, fear among journalists remained unabated, according to Freedom Forum.
(Freedom Forum/IFEX) – A total of six incidents of press freedom violations occurred during the period from 16 February to 15 March 2012.
On 12 March 2012, journalists Shravan Deuba, who is associated with the Nayapatrika daily, Deepak Oli of the Sourya daily, and Bhim Chaudhari with Tarai Television, were detained for two hours from 7:30pm onwards by timber smugglers and threatened with being killed if they continued to write reports about smuggling. The incident occurred in Doti, a district in the far-western region of Nepal.
