A journalist's murder spread shock waves among the Nepali media, Freedom Forum reports.
(Freedom Forum/IFEX) – A total of 9 incidents of press freedom violations occurred during this month from March 16-April 15, 2012 across the country.
Journalist Yadav Poudel was killed in Jhapa, a district in the southern east plain of Nepal, on the night of April 3, 2012. Poudel, 39, was a reporter with the Rajdhani daily and Avenues Television from Jhapa, and also the executive editor of the local New Mechi Times daily. He was found dead on the road near Birtamod Bus Park at Birtamod in the district.
The police recovered his body with fractures in the right hand and blood coming out of his head at 1:00am. The incident occurred near Panchthar Damak Sekuwa Corner. Poudel was a permanent resident of Sijuwa VDC of Morang, neighboring district of Jhapa. He had been working as a journalist for a decade in Jhapa.
