The verdict comes on top of the judicial decision announced earlier in the week to absolve the Greek intelligence service in “Predatorgate,” a case where reporters were wiretapped.
“Karaivaz was one of Greece’s most prominent investigative journalists specialising in organised crime and police reporting when he was gunned down in broad daylight outside his Athens home on 9 April 2021”.
Rights groups and press freedom organisations call on the European Commission to take immediate action to address the deterioration of media freedom and the rule of law in Greece and its impact on fundamental rights.
